Earth Day: Ocean Walk & Clean-Up

Every 22nd day of April, we celebrate what we call the Earth Day. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrate for environmental protection. This year’s Earth Day theme is “End Plastic Pollution”.

Since the 22nd day is on a Sunday, we opted to celebrate Earth Day on a Saturday, April 21. Our organization, Movement Against Plastic Pollution – Ilocos Norte, organized an event to celebrate this once a year event.

Our event was called “Earth Day: Ocean Walk and Clean-up”. We had two schedules that day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Our event was attended by different people from the society. We had volunteers from different motorcycle rider clubs from Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur, college students from MMSU- College of Aquatic Sciences and Applied Technology, young professionals, and employees from First Balfour.

The morning batch was composed of 33 volunteers from different motorcycle rider clubs and college students. We were able to collect 77.8 kilos of trashes from the beaches of Brgy. Salugan, Brgy. Victoria, and Brgy. Gaang.

While the afternoon batch was composed of 66 volunteers from private individuals, students, and employees from First Balfour. We were able to collect 138.6 kilos from the coast of Pangil Rock Formation.

After each clean-ups, we had a small socialization, distribution of certificates, and had simple snacks.

I’d like to thank those who participated and showed their love for our environment. You are all greatly appreciated!
