Pangil Rock Formation: Emergency Clean-Up

May 5, around 6am, when a certain post on Facebook was reported to us. By that time, I was waiting for the volunteers for our Month of the Ocean event.[ https://patriziadacanay.wordpress.com/2018/05/20/month-of-the-ocean-ocean-walk-clean-up/ ]

Afternoon of that same day, after our scheduled ocean walk and clean-up, we had an emergency clean-up in Pangil Rock Formation. With 14 volunteers, we managed to collect 94.7 kilos of trashes in and out of the water. We also met another group, helping in cleaning the area — GVFII – Currimao (Guardians).

Some photos are from Ma’am Azalea taken during our emergency clean-up, May 5, Saturday, around 3:00pm.

There were a lot, as in A LOT, of trashes to be removed and disposed properly in and out of the water.

The next day, May 6, groups from the LGU of Currimao, Camp 1 Currimao Riders Club, SIKA – Currimao, Raniag Next Gen Dance Group, our organization, youth group from Pangil, and others also helped in cleaning the place. According to the MENRO Facebook page, they collected 700 kilos of trashes from the area. While our group and SIKA – Currimao collected over a hundred kilos of trashes.

That’s what I call unity in keeping our beloved place clean and safe. I’m really hoping that’ll be the last that we’ll encounter such scenario in our hometown.

Tho most of the trashes were brought by the habagat (I think), since habagat season is just around the corner already. There was still a big percentage that some of the trashes were from locals and tourists visiting the area.

Just a reminder for everyone, please, wherever you go, LEAVE NO TRACE. Let’s all start being conscious and let’s all start taking care of our environment.
